Produce With A Purpose

Imagine a world where we all had access to fresh food and a community to share it with!
Produce with a Purpose is a vision to build a food garden to supply fresh food to those who need it, supported by a community committed to social justice

Beyond the production of fresh food though, Produce with a Purpose is a unique opportunity to grow much more; - a community committed to food security, social justice and outreach, education and connection to each other and the planet. The dream is to;
•supply fresh produce to ERN programs and perhaps other food security organisations,
•create a hands-on resource where people can learn how to grow produce
•provide opportunities for educational, social outreach and enterprise activities,
•build spiritual connection to the earth and her seasonal rhythms,
•engage and connect people around the growing of food for those who need it, and
•build a community of volunteers working together to support and empower those who need a hand.

In Washington, The Good Cheer Food bank garden produces 5000lbs (approx 2260 kilos) of fresh produce a year that goes directly to local food banks. Aside from a coordinator, the garden is worked and managed by volunteers working with young adults training in farming or horticulture. The garden is built on good will, community spirit and a shoe string budget. You can read more on their blog; http://goodcheergarden.wordpress.com/
Amberley currently has a small vegie patch producing food for centre activities. We hope this will be the foundation on which a larger community and much larger garden can grow.
Please share the Produce with a Purpose page, visions become reality through the strengths of the community that support them.
